Here is a guide to help get us started. I am wanting to train for a 10K and then a half-marathon by my next birthday in March 2014. I ran my first 5K on my 39th birthday, my first 10K on my 40th birthday, and now the trend is set. I just need a little push to make me commit. Anyone feel like joining me? We can train together here in Mapleton or keep each other accountable in the virtual world with Nike’s Running app. Either way, it would be great to train with a buddy! I sure miss my good friend, Laurie Timmons. She was the best running buddy ever!!!! I found this fun graphic to get me started.

Yesterday we did poetry for our writing assignment. We read a poem about sunflowers in our language lesson, so I had each child either write their own poem about sunflowers or copy the poem from the language lesson and memorize it. Only one out of four chose to copy and recite. I was pleased that each child took a different approach to their poem. My youngest daughter and I worked together on a acrostic poem. It turned out really well. It seems like I did all the work when you read the poem, but if it weren’t for her suggestions and input, it would not have been the same at all. In fact, I would have taken a completely different direction with the poem than what she wanted. So, here is our lovely poem about sunflowers.
Sun warms seed.
Under moist soil,
New life begins.
First, seed sprouts.
Leaves then appear.
On the stem
Where buds blossom
Emerge enormous flowers
Reveling in the sun.
No, Alysia does NOT run. At least not lately. I am dying to get my normal routine back! My husband has been traveling for the past 3 1/2 weeks with short stops at home for one to two days. My whole routine is totally out of whack! I’m used to getting up at 5:20 am to run with my girlfriends, come home, have time to myself to read and ponder, and get showered and dressed before ever having to deal with little kids or someone else’s needs. That “me time” in the mornings keeps me sane, helps me be patient with the needs and demands of little people and gives me the grounding I need to be a good wife, mother and teacher to my 5 homeschooling children. Without it, life is kinda going bonkers at my house. I stay up late, I wake up groggy and unprepared for the day, and I am having to suspend all expectations of being productive just to keep from blowing my top. I NEED to run, to exercise, to visit with my girlfriends, to have personal time on a regular basis. Without it, I’m not so good at being me.
I just finished a craft project from the Wood Connection that I love! It is a welcome sign for my front door that allows me to hang different woodcuts themed for each month of the year. I just love the projects at the Wood Connection! They are affordable and always have something that is simple enough for me to take on. I don’t have a lot of time to spend doing these projects, but I find that a little sanding one day, a coat of black paint another day, and little by little they come together and look so cute and so professional– all because they have everything I need to make it look just like the model I saw at the store. Thank you Wood Connection for making me look like a crafting pro!
This is Alysia Gonzalez’s blog. I am in the process of recreating this blog after being hacked one too many times. Bear with me as I get this updated. Check back to see how well I am keeping up–maybe that will help keep me motivated!
